Participatory Research & Evaluation
We conduct applied research that brings community priorities to light
Community Works is regularly invited to lead or advise on applied research projects that explore complex social challenges and support practical action. Our work focuses on listening deeply, uncovering insights, and informing change through evidence. Participatory methods are central to our approach. We work closely with local communities to ensure their voices shape both the process and the outcomes of the research.
Examples include:
-
Transforming Mental Health Care. Insights from the WPA Consultation on Implementing Alternatives to Coercion in partnership with the World Psychiatric Association, conducted in Colombia and Australia. 2019 to 2024
-
‘Who are you getting dolled up for?’ a community-based study on cultural influences on the effectiveness of trachoma prevention programs in Aboriginal communities in Central Australia in partnership with Ninti One. 2019 to 2020
-
Perspectives of Aboriginal people on disability and care in the Barkly Region of the Northern Territory in partnership with Ninti One. 2016 to 2017
-
Study of Allied Health Service Provision in the Barkly Region, as part of a feasibility study for the Remote and Rural Indigenous Allied Health Workforce Development Project (RIAHP), in partnership with Ninti One. 2018 to 2019
Community Works acknowledges the First Nations people upon whose lands we operate. We recognise that this land was never terra nullius. Their land was never ceded, given up, bought or sold. We recognise continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to their land, language, waters, sky and culture. We pay our respects to Elders, past present and emerging.
